How much of your donation actually goes to St. Jude? ›

We're proud that 82 cents of every dollar received goes to support the treatment, research and future needs of St. Jude.

In the past decade, St. Jude has been recognized as a top charity by some of the world's leading charity evaluators. We've also received a favorable rating by the American Institute of Philanthropy, as well as by the financial-rating agency Moody's and Fitch (Fitch Ratings).

Jude has helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% in 1962 to 80% today. We won't stop until no child dies from cancer. St. Jude has achieved a 94% survival rate for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Jude is $1.3 million per year.

Jude's Children's Hospital, founded by the late actor Danny Thomas and endorsed by numerous celebrities, has been slammed in a just-out report for its financial practices, and for using at least half of its fundraising on administrative and marketing tasks. It also accused the Memphis hospital of “hoarding” its funds.

While she is actively involved in fundraising and awareness efforts for the hospital, it is important to note that she does not receive a salary or payment from St. Jude's [1]. Instead, Marlo Thomas dedicates her time and efforts to support the hospital's mission of providing free medical care to children with cancer.

Since 2017, only about half of the $7.3 billion dollars St. Jude has received in contributions went to the hospital's patient care and research. Of the remainder, 30% was spent on fundraising and 20% to its reserve fund.

Suntrapak's base salary is also significantly larger than James Downing's, who is the CEO of St. Jude Children's Resarch Hospital. Tax returns show that Downing received a base salary of $1.19 million in 2021.

In 2022, the nonprofit organization in the U.S. with the highest paid CEO was Sentara Health, with an estimated salary of 33.22 million U.S. dollars. That year, seven of the top ten nonprofits with the highest paid CEOs belonged to the healthcare industry.
